‘ON THE WAY’ EXHIBITION

‘On the Way’ was not just an exhibition. It was a movement, an idea, and for a single moment during a cold winter night within the heart of Melbourne, it acted as a collective creative expression. 1 night, 450 people, 12 artworks, and 1 gallery. These are the numbers that defined the cumulative effort of three months of tireless work.

The premise was simple. To foster an environment that expressed the story and connection of third culture within the West. Through the efforts of myself and Melbourne-based brand, The Plagiarist, we created a collaboration that helped to share our stories of assimilation, hardship, ambition, and beauty. From this single night alone, has now spawned countless collaborations in the field of fashion, film, art, music, and dance - all because of a single idea. Featured are the artworks that were made during this time and exhibited on the night, each telling a story of unique cultures birthed through innovation and adaptation.

We hail from lands afar, blanketed by an all protecting horizon of grand seas. Of lands speckled in gold, of skies stained by the jewels of sunlight, and of a rain that bears with it diamonds.

These same treasures, stolen. Leaving us with only the shadows of what once was - their absence replaced by our longings.

Now, the stories of our people’s past are all that we hold with us now, gifted by those endless generations that came before you and I.

Of stories of when our peoples once sang together in a sacred harmony, and our spirits danced amongst the twilight as one.

Today, we seek a semblance of what once stood. Perhaps we may never know of the feeling that our ancestors once celebrated, or perhaps we are on the way to creating our own.

For now, you and I walk down this journey with no destination, searching for a home that never was.
